Recovery Point
We originally had a 5 tonne towball on a dropplate on the rear of the Landrover. This was great for towing however acted like a plough when off road and reduced the departure angle.

The simple solution seemed to be a NATO hitch of the type fitted to army vehicles for towing Sankey trailers. Worked well and bolts straight on to the rear crossmember however this was difficult to use as it fouled the rear mounted spare wheel when it was opened.

To the rescue came Derek from www.lrsoffroad.co.uk who supplied an Equipe 4x4 hitch.

This bolts straight on to the rear crossmember and provides an excellent point to attach a rope or winch cable. Hopefully we’ll be using it to recover other folk rather than needing to test it ourselves. We are very impressed with it, appears to be a well made sturdy piece of kit. It was put to use for the first time yesterday recovering a new Discovery 3, all the electronic gadgets in the world can’t save a car when its got road biased tyres!
If you would like one of these give Derek at LRS Offroad a call and tell him Team Mud sent you.
The NATO hitch went on e-bay and all proceeds from the sale donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
